VersaCarve began with a simple problem we kept hearing from 3D printing enthusiasts and STEM educators.
When working with 3D-printed parts, one of the most common ways to create strong, reusable screw connections is to install brass heat-set inserts. The process sounds simple: heat the insert with a soldering iron and press it carefully into the printed part. In practice, however, keeping the soldering iron perfectly stable, straight, and controlled by hand can be surprisingly difficult.
Many makers solve this by buying a dedicated heat-set insert press. It works well, but it is another specialized tool that takes up valuable workspace and serves only one purpose.
That challenge became the first spark behind VersaCarve.
We asked ourselves: what if the same stable frame used for installing brass inserts could be compact, portable, and designed to come apart and reassemble wherever you need it? And once we had that frame, why stop at heat-set inserts?
The same structure could support a compact drill press, complemented by a handheld rotary tool for even more DIY tasks. From there, the idea grew beyond 3D printing. By combining a compact drill press, handheld rotary tool, and soldering iron, VersaCarve became a versatile setup for everything from woodworking and model making to electronics and everyday DIY projects.
What started as a better way to install a small brass insert became something much bigger: a portable, reconfigurable workbench designed to help makers do more with less space and fewer dedicated machines.
That idea became VersaCarve.
